  26. I surely hope that Newtek quickly decides to offer Lightwave at an 
  27. educational price.  As an institution dedicated to delivering high quality
  28. education if the fields of multi-media, virtual reality and electronic game
  29. design we are in need of a site-licence of some 3D modelling package to
  30. facilitate product development.  Our choice almost seems clear.  We need to
  31. graduate students who develop marketable software products.  Once they
  32. graduate, they will have to purchase the software used to develop their
  33. own products.  This mean we have to buy a high quality, fully featured
  34. system with good support, and one that will be around.  It also means that
  35. the software has to be cost effective for the students to buy when they
  36. graduate.  Seems like lightwave is the perfect choice.  BUT...

  38. No Educational Pricing...No Site Licencing...We need 22 copies at approx.
  39. $1400 CDN each (30,800).  Autodesk on the other hand realizes the tight
  40. fiscal constraints of educational institutions.  22 Copies of 3DStudio at
  41. an educational price of about $350.00 each is only 7,700. (Note that the
  42. educational version of 3DS is the same as the commercial version but with
  43. restrictions on use)  As well it is also quite amazing that other software
  44. companies with software costing multiple tens of thousands of dollars are
  45. willing to give a huge helping hand to educational institutions.

  47. What is comes down to is LIGHTWAVE is the most expensive 3D package for us.
  48. Again, I hope NEWTEK is listening and working on this situation.  It is in
  49. their best interest to have people trained on their system.  It will only
  50. make those trainees want to purchase it in their own businesses and 
  51. strengthen their market share.
